GSX-S1000S : Katana 3.0 !

Voici enfin la nouvelle Katana que Suzuki a présenté au à l'Intermot de Cologne en octobre 2018, pour une commercialisation au printemps suivant. A dire vrai, le prototype de cette moto avait déjà été vu à l'EICMA de Milan l'année précédente : c'était le fruit d'un projet mené conjointement entre le magazine Motocicilismo, le designer Rodolfo Frascoli et le bureau d'études Engines Engineering.

La Katana "M0" n'est certes pas révolutionnaire comme son ancêtre, qu'il s'agisse du style ou de la technique ; mais c'est un joli hommage, que je qualifierai de néo-rétro-futuriste (eh oui - la première Katana était futuriste, mais aujourd'hui elle est rétro !-)

Et en effet, techniquement, la machine est "old school" : pas de gadgets électroniques (juste l'ABS et un antipatinage trimode), le quatre-cylindres de la GSX-R 2005 et ses 150 chevaux, bref, la base saine de la GSX-S1000 avec en cadeau le bras oscillant et les étriers Brembo du GSX-R 2016.

At long last, Suzuki introduced  the new Katana at the Köln Intermot in October 2018, to be sold the following spring. In fact the prototype of this bike had already been shown at the EICMA Milan the previous year - it was a joint project between Motociclismo magazine, the designer Rodolfo Frascoli and the engineering bureau Engines Engineering.

OK, the Katana "M0" is not revolutionnary like the original - speaking from a design or engineering point of view - but it is a nice hommage, that I would label as "neo-retro-futuristic" (well, think about it : the first Katana was futuristic, but now it is retro !-)

Technically, the bike is indeed "old school" : no fancy electronics (only an ABS and a 3-mode traction control), the 2005 GSX-R engine with all its 150 horses, in fact the safe roots of the GSX-S1000 to which are added the 2016 GSX-R swingarm and Brembo brakes.
